Summer kicks off with a deadly punch: Buckle up for the 100 deadliest days on Texas roads!
As the Memorial Day weekend approaches, TxDOT is warning drivers of the dangers of the roads due to the historically deadly record for accidents during this period. Over the past five years, there have been an average of 550 crashes resulting in over 45 fatalities during this weekend. TxDOT urges drivers to be aware of their surroundings and practice safe driving habits such as obeying speed limits, avoiding distractions, and buckling up. Drivers should also look out for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other drivers on the road. TxDOT has also advised against driving while under the influence and encourages anyone who is drinking to designate a sober driver. Additionally, travelers are urged to plan ahead for their trips by checking TxDOT traffic maps before leaving, as well as making sure their vehicles are properly serviced and maintained.
